Great Road Farm

Princeton, New Jersey

Situated on a gentle ridge commanding a 100-acre equestrian farm, this new estate serves as the hub for an active family. Designed and built to be in keeping with nearby farmhouses that have evolved slowly over time, the main house is built of local fieldstone while subordinating structures are crafted in wood siding.

The interior facilitates both of the gentleman farmer’s requirements—an office and room for entertaining—while also creating a comfortable and durable home for the children.

A series of exterior spaces, such as a family terrace, is focused around a created ruin of an earlier structure. A farm office set in the woods continues the story of a compound built over time, while a series of walls and fences creates precincts for a vegetable garden and for a swimming pool.
