Chapel of the Sacred Heart
SIOUX FALLS, SOUTH DAKOTA
This new daily mass chapel was built within what was originally the old sacristy for the Cathedral of St. Joseph.
This smaller, more intimate worship space seats eighty people. The chapel was designed around existing stained glass windows, unified by a series of arches and pilasters.
The architecture, artwork, sculpture, and furnishings are designed as a whole. The careful layering of these elements includes a large triptych painting at the sanctuary, a series of Russian icons filling the arches opposite the stained glass windows, hand-forged light fixtures, a bronze ambo, and a Baldacchino with a bronze crucifixion scene in the frieze.
