FOR THE PAST 23 YEARS, Michael Franck and Art Lohsen have worked together with a dedicated and talented team of professionals as Franck & Lohsen Architects Inc. creating architecture in the realms of ecclesiastical, residential, university, and urban design.

It has been a source of great joy to have created timeless buildings enjoyed by a wide-range of people — from students to homeowners to worshippers; and fortunate to have wonderful clients who placed their trust and vision in our hands — including the peer recognition of the Arthur Ross Award for our body of work.

This September, Franck & Lohsen Architects, Inc. will transform into two new entities. Michael will assume the helm of residential, hospitality and university commissions with Michael M. Franck Architect LLC. Art will assume the helm of ecclesiastical commissions with Bella Chiesa LLC. and, as always, Michael and Art will continue to work in a collaborative spirit which has been a hallmark of their firm.

We are excited about this next chapter as we continue to create enduring architecture.

2 Bells Park

PALMETTO BLUFF, SC

Completing one of the few remaining lots in the exclusive Point neighborhood of Palmetto Bluff, this new house takes a commanding yet appropriate position on an important intersection of two streets.

The two-and-a-half story main house presents a formal entry to Myrtle View Street—appearing as a Charleston single house. The more casual facade faces Bells Park North and boasts a grand porch lined with Doric columns.

A two–story carriage house provides parking for two cars, a golf cart and contains the mechanical and service needs for the property. An intimate guest suite and an office for the owner opens on to a generous covered porch overlooking Bells Park.

The carport operates as a transitional space for parking or for covered family activities as the carport opens on to the family courtyard. This unique courtyard connects the carriage house to the main house with a pergola lined with a wall of shutters. An outdoor fireplace serves as the anchor to the courtyard, while a spool (hot and cold water pool) serves double duty for relaxation as well as a fountain.

Inside the main house a unique series of rooms off the main living area provides views well beyond the home. A feeling of a timeless house is artfully combined with all the desirable modern amenities.
